About 7 weeks ago Max stopped going down easily at night. I am convinced that it is due to an ear infection brewing but I am also convinced that it is due to a late nap schedule. I used to not allow Max to sleep past 4 pm then it was 4 15 pm then 4 30 then 5 pm and you get the picture. Well that was ok when he was a baby but now now-because he can stay up for 4 to 5 or 6 hours easily. So today I tested my theory. I did not allow him to nap if it was past 4 pm,. He took his first nap at 9:45 to 11:45 am and then he was awake for the rest of the day. Max, like before, took his bath and laid his head on the floor and then we had a bottle and rocked in the chair and then he went to sleep only after 4 minutes of rocking. The past 7 weeks have not been this way. It has been a fight. It has been tough and it started to make me feel like I was a bad mom. I started to feel like maybe I did not know how to put him to sleep. So we will see if my theory is correct over the next few weeks. What is your experience with napping and sleeping?
Yesterday, we cut Charlie’s afternoon nap (same scenario as you… had been getting later and later) and she went down easy and early and slept all night. Tried it again tonight and so far so good. Fingers crossed for you guys! And you are a great mom by the way!!
Porgie went down to one nap per day at a year too. Since she got a little fussy in the evenings, we moved bedtime up to 7:00 pm.
